Move ahead with a strong Climate Commitment Act

For more than a decade, we have worked to put a price on carbon pollution to decarbonize and invest in communities. As the climate clock nears a tipping point, Washington Environmental Council has been engaging in carbon pricing bills in the 2021 Legislature: the Climate Commitment Act (SB 5126) a cap and trade bill, as well as Washington Strong Act (SB 5373) a carbon tax, the latter of which failed to move past cutoff and was not included in proposed budgets.

The State Senate passed SB 5126 a couple of weeks and now the bill is moving through the House. The bill has made it further than any carbon pricing policy before and with constructive work, it has a chance of becoming law this year.

Thank you for taking action!

Hello, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I live in [YOUR CITY/TOWN].

I am calling to urge Senator [YOUR SENATOR] to pass a Clean Fuel Standard. Now that the House has passed the Clean Fuel Standard (HB 1091), for the third year in a row, the Senate must act. This important bill will reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels by 20% by 2035 and result in cleaner air for everyone.

Transportation is now the largest source of emissions in Washington, and a Clean Fuel Standard is a proven way to reduce this carbon pollution. I urge you to prioritize passing a Clean Fuel Standard this year.

Washington needs cleaner choices for transportation. A Clean Fuel Standard is a key part of this solution. Please pass HB 1091/Clean Fuel Standard now!
