Our waterfronts are critical habitat for young salmon and forage fish, and this is the base of the food web that supports the southern resident orcas. HB 1579 will protect shoreline habitats by giving the Department of Fish and Wildlife the same enforcement power as our other state agencies to stop illegal activity and conduct environmental review before issuing permits for shoreline construction.
Our state legislature can help by passing a package of Orca Emergency response bills. One of those bills would protect shoreline habitat and increase Chinook salmon stocks to support the food web our orcas depend on.
Contact your legislators today and urge them to support HB 1579.
