The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has heeded our call for climate action, proposing a clean fuel standard to reduce the carbon intensity of transportation fuels by a whopping 25% by 2030. The Agency’s Board of Directors need you to comment in support of a clean fuel standard to make this plan a reality.

A clean fuel standard works by setting a limit on greenhouse gas emissions from transportation fuels. This gives an advantage to cleaner fuels like electricity and biofuels and incentivizes more access and infrastructure to these clean fuels for everyone.

Dear Puget Sound Clean Air Agency,

In the Puget Sound region, over 40% of climate pollution is from our transportation sector, with the biggest contributors being gasoline and diesel. And, pollution from transportation has only increased over the last decade. This is an unacceptable threat to our region and something we can address.

Climate emissions from gasoline and diesel aren’t just warming our planet. These fossil fuels also have significant health impacts, affecting people close to roadways and vehicles with serious health problems like strokes and heart disease.

Establishing a clean fuel standard is a proven way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as these other air pollutants.

We urge you to finalize a clean fuel standard that lowers carbon intensity by no less than 25% by 2030. We also urge you to strengthen the standard to focus clean fuel investments on communities and populations hurt the most by fossil fuels, and include protections for workers.
